The 60th Golden State Round Up is this weekend, and we have a problem. We still have a ways to go to meet our room commitment with the San Ramon Marriott. The hotel has graciously extended our block right up to the last minute, but they can only add a few rooms to the block at a time. Please consider supporting the Round Up by staying at the Marriott. You don’t need to stay the entire weekend .. every night helps! You’ll be helping to keep ribbon prices down, and you’ll give yourself a great, relaxing experience at the same time. Golden State Round Up Flooring

At a special meeting of the club delegates of the Northern California Square Dancers Association, the decision was made to purchase several thousand square feet of Swisstrax flooring. This is the same modular plastic flooring used last month at the California State Square Dance Convention in Victorville. It has also been used many times across the country for other major events, most notably National Square Dance Convention in Spokane and the International Association of Gay Square Dance Clubs conventions in Chicago, Atlanta, and Vancouver. This purchase is the result of extensive negotiation between the NCSDA and Swisstrax and will help to continue Golden State Round Up’s tradition as one of the west coast’s premiere square dance weekends.

Swisstrax plastic flooring is extremely comfortable to dance on and provides a smooth yet safe dance surface. When installed over carpeting like it will be at the beautiful San Ramon Marriott, the flooring will be even more cushioned, so dancers can enjoy dancing longer.

The NCSDA Board investigated and ultimately recommended the purchase of Swisstrax flooring in recognition of Golden State Round Up’s status as a leading festival. We hope to be able to make our flooring available to be rented by other events in the future.

This purchase would not have possible had it not been for a very generous anonymous donation. A kind soul – known to the Board only as “NCSDA Angel” – donated $10,000 specifically to help purchase the flooring. The Board is overwhelmed by our Angel’s generosity and grateful for his words of support and appreciation.

We encourage all dancers to come out to Golden State Round Up again this year. As it is our 60th anniversary, our theme is Switch to a Diamond Anniversary. Our featured calling staff this year includes Bill Harrison (Maryland), Tom Miller (Pennsylvania), Charlie Robertson (California), and Matt Worley (Virginia); Kristine & Bruce Nelson (Arizona) will be featured again on rounds.
